NPHS BOYS WINTER AND SPRING TRACK TEAMS, 1981
STATE CHAMPIONS
At the Meet of Champions at Princeton University, the Distance Medley Relay Team set a school record of 10:29.2. The Two-Mile Relay Team finished second. Kevin Nibbelink finished second, as did Ryran Gardner in the Triple Jump, and Doug Coyle finished third in the High Jump.
Blair Mancini finished fourth with a time of 4:18.4 in the High School Invitational Mile Run at the Melrose Games at Madison Square Garden.
North Penn won the Pennsylvania Track Coaches Association State Championship held at Lehigh University on February 28, 1981. Results -- North Penn won 50 points:

Dyran Gardner 2nd Long Jump -- 21’ 11.5” * (new school record)
Dyran Gardner 2nd Triple Jump – 47’, 4.5” * (new school record)

Three North Penn runners – Keith Dean, Dyran Gardner, Blair Mancini – qualified for and ran in the Eastern States Championship at Princeton University on March 9, 1981. Results: Blair Mancini won the Mile in Record Time of 4:11.6. Dyran Gardner placed second in the Triple Jump with a school record of 47’9.5”.
The Spring Track and Field Team was undefeated for the third straight year in Dual Meets in the Bux-Mont League. Their record: 9-0. For an encore, the North Penn Track and Field Team won the District Championship for the second year in a row.
At the Penn Relays, North Penn won the Bux-Mont Mile Relay (the third year in a row) with a record time. The NP 3200 Meter Relay Team finished second in the Championship of America race at the Penn Relays. This same team of Dave Schmitz, Don Travis, John Hradnansky and Blair Mancini won the Pennsylvania State Title with a record time of 7:42.65.
Blair Mancini won the 1500 Race at the Penn Relays and was named “The Outstanding Schoolboy Track Athlete” for the meet. Blair was District Champ at 800 Meters and was State Champion at 1600 Meters.
Steve Gildea was District Champ in the Shot Put.
