2000 Boys Swim Team

In the beginning of the season, expectations were not as high as in previous seasons for the North Penn
boys swim team. “We set our own goals this year. We really didn’t care what other teams and coaches
expected of us,” stated senior tri-captain Ryan Hollenbach. The Knights managed to make this season another lasting memory while capturing their thirteenth straight District meet, fourth straight PIAA STATE title, and rolling past the rest of their opponents in the process.

Thirteen boys qualified for the PIAA District meet and 10 for the PIAAA State meet. Dominick Szabo
captured first place in the 200 individual medley at both the State and District meets setting a new record at each. He also placed second in the 100 breastroke with an Olympic qualifying time at both meets. Senior teammate Steve Fleming also placed first in the 100 backstroke at the District meet and won silver medal at States.

Other members that qualified for the State meet were seniors Jon Faikish, Ricky Schillow; juniors
Justin Fanslau, Chris Houchins; Sophomore Pat Thompson, and freshman Brett Kratz Nick Fanslau. Senior diver Ryan Hollenbach finished sixth at the State meet and placed third at the
District.

The Knights have a record of 191 consecutive dual meet victories in effect since 1989. Their last dual
meet lost was to Emmaus in 1988. This year’s senior class had a strong bond that led the team to its fourteenth consecutive undefeated season. This class won four State titles in its undefeated reign making it only the second team to ever finish all four years undefeated. At the State meet, at Penn State University, the senior class led North Penn on its winning relays and also contained the only three
individual medal winners. The senior class left its mark both in the pool and on the record board.

“I hope we continue to carry on the tradition of our continuous winning streak. That was one goal that
we had this season,” explained Pat Thompson. The Knights managed to accomplish all their goals this year by capturing their fourth straight State title, making this season another victory.
