The Lansdale High School football team finished another successful season with a second place in the Bux-Mont League. At the final Count, the Huskies had won seven games, lost one, and tied one.
The Maroon and White was coached by the Capable Kenneth Poust and his assistant, Russell Fisher. They were led on the field by their captain, Jack Graham.
The Huskies opened the season against a strong Ambler team which ended in a scoreless tie, 0-0. In the next game the team traveled to Sell-Perk and played under the lights. After a brilliant game the Huskies won 12-0. The Maroon and White Club next traveled to Springfield and entered the game as the underdog. As soon as the game had started, we found that we had a very powerful team and Springfield was trounced, 2 5-7.
As tradition goes, there is a muddy game to every season. The boys played Hatboro in two or three inches of mud and beat them 18-0. Our Club next traveled to Jenkintown and played our second game under the arc lights. Every man on our team was given a chance to play as the Huskies trod over Jenkintown by a score of 39-0.
In a non-league fracas with Upper Moreland, the team played a whale of a game as they beat a battered opponent 5 3-6. Quakertown visited our field the next week, and they put a strong team on the field. It took the Huskies a while to get warmed up, but when they did, Quakertown was laid on the shelf 32-6.
In the next game our boys traveled to Souderton. As the teams went on the field, everyone sensed it was not a day for football. The wind was blowing hard, it was very cold, and besides this, there was a very inspired Souderton team to beat. In spite of these facts, the Huskies held the lead on Souderton, 14-0.
In the traditional game with Doylestown on Thanksgiving Day, the Huskies went into the game with the feeling that they had to win. Our boys held the lead for three quarters, 12-0. Then as a big surprise to everyone, Doylestown struck and piled on thirteen points in the last eight minutes of play. When the final whistle blew, the Huskies had lost 13-12. There are ten men on the team who are to be graduated: Captain Jack Graham, "Chick" Roos, "Arch" Edwards, "Itch" Armstrong, Morton Godshall, John Pharr, George Wambold, "Pat" Reese, "Tex" Cash, and Bill Eccles. "Pud" Helman, a capable end on the varsity this season, was elected Captain by the lettermen for next year. We are sure he will be able to lead his team through a successful season.
