It was cold and rainy, but both teams came out to play. The North Penn Knights proved once again why they were State Champs last year, by defeating the Abington Ghosts with a convincing score of 34 - 6.
Led by sophomore quarterback Jimmy Levins, the Knights took an early lead with the help of Brandon Turner and the player of the game, Peter Stoll. At the end of the first quarter the Knights had a comfortable 14 - 0 lead. After a scoreless second quarter for either team, Shane Gallagher broke his way into the end zone in both the 3rd and 4th quarters to put the Knights up 27 - 0. The scoring was not over for North Penn however, as Turner ran in for his second score of the night, making the score 34 - 0.
The Knights defense seemed almost flawless tonight, recovering fumbles and making big hits. An intercepted pass on the goal line with under a minute left protected the Knights 34 - 0 lead, however as the Knights took over, a fumble forced by the slippery conditions gave the Ghosts their opportunity to score. With only four-tenths of a second left on the clock Abington fell on top of the ball in the end zone, breaking the shut out. The extra point attempt was no good, after a penalty moved it back. With only four seconds left, the Knights almost returned the kickoff for another touchdown, but were stopped at the Ghosts 45 yard line.
The North Penn Knights improved to 5 - 2, by defeating the Abington Ghosts 34 - 6. North Penn will face rival Neshaminy next Friday night at 7:30 in Crawford Stadium.
