Click here to read the game write-up. North Penn improved their record to 2-0 last night, defeating the third seated team in the state, Cardinal O’Hara. North Penn’s Alex Schmid kicked off into the end zone to give the Lions a touchback. On 3rd and 1, O’Hara broke free for a first down but was stopped by Josh Neubert. At their own 34, O’Hara threw a completed pass for 6 yards, with Paul Leslie on the tackle. After another first down, Sean Lion carried for O’Hara, stopped by Neubert to bring up 2 nd and 8. On the first down at the North Penn 27, O’Hara rushed but was stuffed by Ian Carpenter. A few plays later, on 4 th and 4 at the NP 10 yard line, O’Hara threw a high pass complete to an open receiver for a touchdown with 4:00 to play in the first quarter. The extra point was good. Tyrese Ervin returned the kickoff to the North Penn 48 yard line to bring up 1st and 10. Handoff to Brandon Turner who ran for 7 yards, then to Peter Stoll who carried for a first down at the O’Hara 48. Quarterback Jimmy Levins handed off to Turner again who broke free and ran 48 yards for the touchdown at 2:37. Brandon McManus’ extra point was good. Schmid kicked off for the Knights, but a flag on the play brought O’Hara up to their own 35. On 1st and 10, O’Hara threw a complete pass to receiver Justy, who ran for 8 yards , but was stopped by Joe Talotta. Justy carried again but was stopped by Johnson to bring up 3rd and 1 on the O’Hara 44. The quarterback sneak was stopped, and on 4th and 1, it looked like O’Hara would go for the first down, but a false start pushed them back to 4th and 6, and the Lions brought out their punting unit. The punt was not returned, but touched at the North Penn 28 yard line. After another flag, North Penn was forced back to their own 23, with 1st and 15. Stoll ran for 4 yards to bring up 2nd and 11 on his own 27 to end the first quarter. The score was tied at 7 all. The next play was an incomplete pass to Turner, and then a sack by O’Hara’s McGrath. On 4th and 19 at their own 19, the Knights were forced to bring out Elliot Johnson to punt. O’Hara ended up with the ball on their own 46. Sean Lion ran 15 yards for a first down for O’Hara and was stopped by Alex Johnson at the Knights 39. Another false start call pushed the Lions back to the 44 yard line and brought up 1st and 15. Two pass attempts, the first broken up by Mike Katch and the second broken up by Paul Leslie and Elliot Johnson forced O’Hara to punt. After a touchback, North Penn had the ball on their own 20 yard line. Stoll carried for 2, and on 2nd and 8, Levins was sacked back to the 20. Levins ran for 15 yards on 3rd and 10 to bring up 4th and 5, but was stopped by Walters. The Knights punted again and the return was stopped on the O’Hara 43. On 1st and 15 at their own 49, Sean Lion was stopped by Alex Johnson after gaining only 3 yards. On 3rd and 7, Alex Johnson sacked O’Hara’s quarterback, who fumbled the ball. North Penn’s Ian Carpenter recovered on the O’Hara 41 yard line. North Penn’s next drive was stopped and Elliot Johnson was forced to punt once again for the Knights. A flag on the play allowed for a re-do of the punt, which was touched at the O’Hara 15. A long pass on 1st and 10 was broken up by Turner. On 3rd and 11, O’Hara’s #41 tried to break free but was stopped by Alex Johnson and Mike Wilus, forcing the Lions to punt again. North Penn returned the kick to the 50 yard line. On 2nd and 7, Stoll carried for a first down . The next pass was intended for Elliot Johnson but was incomplete for 2nd and 10 on the O’Hara 34. Stoll ran for another first down, but at 1st and 10 on the 20, Ben Meyers threw incomplete to Ray Alexander. North Penn tried twice in a row to pass into the end zone to Josh Neubert, but neither play was successful. O’Hara took over at their own 20, but ran out the clock to end the first half, with the score still tied, North Penn 7, Cardinal O’Hara 7. O’Hara kicked off to start the second half, Tyrese Ervin returned it to the O’Hara 42. Ben Meyers went in at quarterback and handed off to Turner who ran for a first down. With the ball on the O’Hara 31, Turner got the ball again but was stopped and pushed back to the 35. Stoll then ran for a first down on the O’Hara 20. Stoll, Turner, and Meyers each came up short on their next attempts, and O’Hara took over at their own 14. The Knights stopped the Lions, however, and took over again inside O’Hara territory. Stoll carried for a first down, then for 6 more yards to bring up 2 nd and 4. On the next play Stoll broke free and ran 41 yards for a touchdown. A flag pushed the Knights back for the extra point, but McManus made it anyway, putting North Penn up 14-7. O’Hara returned Schmidt’s kick to North Penn’s 30 yard line. Walters carried but was tackled by Neubert. A face mask penalty pushed O’Hara back again. North Penn held O’Hara at 2nd and 11 to end the third quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, O’Hara ran 13 yards for a touchdown at 11:27. The extra point was good to tie the score at 14 all. O’Hara kicked off, North Penn returned to their own 32. On 3rd and 7, North Penn fumbled, recovered by O’Hara. On 1st and 5, O’Hara threw complete to #81 for a touchdown at 9:43. The extra point hit the cross bar and went over to make the score North Penn 14, Cardinal O’Hara 21. Turner ran for a first down after the kick off and was stopped at his own 41 yard line. Tyrese Ervin ran 59 yards on the next play for a touchdown at 9:25. McManus’ extra point was good, tying the game at 21. Schmid kicked off again for the Knights, but O’Hara fumbled on their own 28 and North Penn recovered. On 1 st and 10 at the O’Hara 25, Turner ran for a touchdown with 8:21 left in the 4th quarter. McManus made the extra point to put North Penn ahead 28-21. Schmid kicked off to O’Hara, who was stopped on their own 46 by Ervin. On 1st and 10, O’Hara quarterback flipped to Sean Lion who was only able to get 3 yards, with Carpenter on the tackle. Walter carried 24 yards on the next play and was pushed out by Elliot Johnson.. At 1st and goal, #41 carried to the 5 but was stopped by Carpenter. Alex Munio and Neubert tackled O’Hara back to the 8 yard line on the next play, but #9 carried for a touchdown at 5:43. The extra point was good to tie the score at North Penn 28, O’Hara 28. O’Hara kicked off and Turner returned the ball to his own 34 for the Knights. The Knights were forced to punt after coming up short and O’Hara got the ball on their own 28. On 2nd and 10, O’Hara fumbled again and North Penn recovered, on the 21. Stoll ran for a first down. With the ball on the 11, Stoll carried again for 2, then again for another first down. On 1st and goal at the 1 yard line, North Penn managed to push through O’Hara’s defense and score with 1:12 left to play in the game. The extra point was good to put North Penn ahead 35-28. Schmid’s kick off was returned to the North Penn 45, Paul Leslie with the tackle. O’Hara’s Walters was forced out of bounds by Carpenter and on the next play, intentionally threw the ball away. O’Hara fumbled yet again and North Penn’s Stoll came up with the ball. With 39.3 seconds left, North Penn took a knee and let the clock run out.
