Lansdale High School’s football team, under the leadership of Coach Ken Poust aiid Assistant Mary Angstadt, ran off another fairly successful season sparked by Captains Frank Malack and Tommy Pavlichko. Win-fling seven of their ten games, the Huskies finished third in the Bux-Mont Conference to tie with Quakertown. They were overshadowed only by Ambler, Springfield, and Quakertown.

The season opened with a home game under the lights with an outsider, TredyffrinEasttown. Although they put up stubborn resistance, Lansdale came out on top with a 7-0 victory. Surely one of the most thrilling
gaInes of the season was with Quakertown, whose deceptive ball handling and determination carried them to a surprising 14-12 upset. In their next game, however, Lansdale came through with a 12-0 victory over Upper Moreland. Howard Reimers showed the way with a spectacular runback of 90 yards on the opening kick-off of the game.

Jenkintown traveled to Lansdale to win back the Little Brown Jug, but in vain. The Huskies overran the Drakes with a 12-0 victory. Souderton was the next victim on the Lansdale elevens list. The red and white met with a decisive 28-0 defeat.

The game of the season was with Ambler. Old Lady Luck did not seem to be with the Huskies that night. In this hard fought game, a touchdown seemed inevitable for us more than once, but each time something happened so that we couldn’t quite get the points needed for a victory; thus the Trojans nosed us out 6-0.

A wet night under the lights (lid not bog down the Huskie attack in their next game with Sell-Perk. Dick Albright proved his worth as a mudder, scoring 5 touchdowns to tie the league record, and making possible an easy 34-7 victory.

Along came the Springfield game. The Spar-tans were just a little too tough for the Huskies and managed to get away with a 7-0 victory. Opposing Ilatboro on Hatboro’s field, the maroon and white came back with a 14-0 victory.

There was tenseness in the air as the Lansdale and Doylestown elevens met on Thanksgiving Day. Quite a bit of controversy had arisen 1)efore the game as to which was the better teani. On the field that day, though, the Huskies showed that they were as they marched to a 33-0 victory. This was Lansdale fifth straight win over Doylestown.

Frank Malack, Dick Albright, and Bill Holnick were selected for the All Bux-mont first team, while Tom Nolen was selected for the second team. Frank Malack was given the most valuable player award, while Bill Fretz showed the most improvement during the season.

To lead our 1948 football team, Steve Moyer and Bill Fretz were elected as co-captains. Here’s hoping they will bring the team out on top next year.
